From: Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Jeff Stocco

With the weekend coming up, and in light of the reported assaults on our campus two weekends ago, today is an appropriate time to remind the campus community of important safety tips, courtesy of Campus Safety:

•    Be aware! Recognize your vulnerability.
•    Report all suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities to Campus Safety immediately, by using any campus blue light phone or by calling 507-933-8888.
•    Use the “buddy system” and watch out for your neighbor.
•    Keep your doors locked whenever you find yourself alone in a building.
•    Report lights that are out and any hazardous conditions immediately to the Physical Plant Office at 507-933-7504.
•    If you see someone being victimized, get involved and notify Campus Safety.
•    Remember the location of emergency phones in academic buildings. Also, phones have been placed in various locations on campus.
Inside building phones are silver in color. Outside phones are blue with “Campus Safety” marked on the side. Blue light phones will display a blue light at the top.

For further safety guidelines, please visit the Campus Safety web site: https://gustavus.edu/safety/tips/crime.php.

Also, please remember that safety whistles are available for all campus community members in the offices of Student Affairs, Campus Safety, and Residential Life. As needed, please take advantage of the College’s SafeRides programs or contact Campus Safety for a ride: 507-933-8888.

Have a relaxing and safe weekend.
