Campus Safety and Gustavus Technology Services would like the community to be aware of a third incident of Ransomware infecting a Gustavus owned computer this week. This most recent case included threatening phone calls to a Gustavus community member’s home.
Be cautious of suspicious emails and webpages.
DON’T click on links from unknown or untrusted sources (including pop-ups)
DON’T provide confidential information
DON’T download any files from emails sent by strangers
DON’T open files when in doubt, even from known email addresses
DON’T respond or reply to emails asking for confidential credentials
DON’T provide any information on a pop-up
DON’T call numbers or follow links from pop-ups on your computer
Gustavus Technology Services will NEVER ask you for your password.
Ransomware is computer malware that installs covertly on a victim’s computer, executes a cryptovirology attack that adversely affects it, and demands a ransom payment to restore it.
