The College learned today that on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at approximately 2:15am, a female Gustavus student was accosted by two intoxicated white males wearing Gustie apparel (these males were likely Gustavus students) as she walked on Ring Road near Complex. The males were harassing in their language toward her and inappropriately touched her. They followed her into a residence hall and forcibly fondled her. If you can provide any information about this incident or if you observed something that might be related, please contact Campus Safety (507-933-8888) immediately.
Students, please practice all due caution and remember to walk with a friend, especially after dark. Stay in well-lit areas, carry your cell phone in your hand and do not hesitate to call Campus Safety if you feel uncomfortable for any reason. Encourage your friends to use the aforementioned practices and intervene if you see someone who appears to be in trouble or having difficulty. Additionally, please review the following helpful tips:
1. Make a note of the locations of emergency phones around campus. Inside building phones are silver in color. Outside phones are blue in color with “Campus Safety ” marked on the side. Blue light phones will display a blue light at the top.
2. Keep your doors locked.
3. Report lights that are out and any hazardous conditions to the Physical Plant Office at x7504.
4. The Campus Safety Safe Rides van continually drive the Safe Ride route from 6:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. every night. All pickup points are designated by posted yellow and black ‘Safe Rides’ signs. It takes the driver 20-30 minutes to drive the route. Students needing a Safe Ride should stand by a designated Safe Rides sign, or the nearest building or entryway if available, and wait for the vehicle to arrive.
5. After 1:30 am, students can call Campus Safety at 507-933-8888 (x8888) and a Campus Safety Officer will provide a walking escort on campus.
